Antipolo City Mayor Jun Ynares said thousands of young people had long dreamed of having a skate park in the city, as skating on the streets posed safety risks and a high chance of accidents.
“Delikado nga naman kasi kung sa kalsada sila mag-skate. Maraming sasakyan. Takaw disgrasya. Nagdudulot din ng pagbagal ng daloy ng traffic. Magastos naman kung dadayo pa sila sa ibang lugar na may skate park (it was indeed dangerous for them to skate on the streets, too many vehicles, high risk of accidents, and it also caused traffic congestion. Also, traveling to far-off places with skate parks was costly),” he said.
“Sabay-sabay nating minanifest at ipinagdasal… at thank God dahil ngayon, sabay-sabay na natin siyang pinasiyanaan at binuksan (We all manifested and prayed together… and thank God, today we inaugurated and opened it together!),” the mayor added.
Ynares said that the project was a collaboration with Senator Pia Cayetano, which started in 2024. It is also believed to be the first indoor skate park in both CALABARZON and National Capital Region (NCR).
He also assured that the skate park is well-designed and high-quality, saying, “Tiniyak din nating maganda at pulido dahil isa ito sa pinakamalaking skate parks sa buong bansa! Ito rin ata ang unang indoor skate park sa CALABARZON at NCR (Because this is one of the biggest skate parks in the entire country! It is also believed to be the first indoor skate park in both CALABARZON and NCR).”
Aside from the skating area, Ynares added that they ensured convenience for all skate park users, as they also built gender-inclusive and PWD-accessible showers and restrooms.
Park guidelines
The mayor said the skate park is now open to the public, with walk-ins welcome and admission on a first-come, first-served basis.
He also released the guidelines, including operating schedules, required safety gear, and prohibited items inside the skate park.
The skate park has a set schedule depending on the activity:
- Skateboarding, inline skating, and roller skating: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.)
- BMX and scooter riding: Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.)
Wearing a helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards, and other safety gear is required. Skaters under 12 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Prohibited in the skating area: Food and drinks, drugs, contraband, firearms or deadly weapons, animals or pets, alcoholic beverages, flammable substances, smoking/vaping, gambling, spitting, vandalism, and other such acts.
Ynares also mentioned that a national open tournament will be held soon to further boost tourism and support local businesses in Antipolo.
