CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija – A grenade explosion rocked the barangay hall of Mabini Extension here before dawn on Saturday, May 10.
Police said that based on closed-circuit television camera footage, an unidentified man wearing black jacket with hoodie and driving a black Kawasaki Bajaj motorcycle lobbed the grenade.
Barangay Chairman John Mycon Sikat Capinpin, 31, was unhurt as he was sleeping in his room on the second floor of the barangay hall.
No one was reported injured but residents were alarmed by the explosion two days before the elections.
Police said they are conducting manhunt operations against the suspect.
Meanwhile, the Nueva Ecija police said a V-150 Armored Personnel Carrier from the 3rd Mechanized Battalion, Armor Division, Philippine Army, was deployed in Jaen, Nueva Ecija to secure the elections on Monday.
Police Col. Ferdinand D. Germino, Nueva Ecija police chief, said additional police personnel were also deployed to boost election security in the province.
The Nueva Ecija police, Commission on Elections, and other government agencies, are committed to ensuring a clean, honest, and peaceful elections.
"Let us protect the integrity of our votes and refrain from engaging in any form of vote-buying or vote-selling," authorities said.
