- DepEd confirms increased compensation for teachers and poll workers in the 2025 elections, recognizing their vital role in ensuring fair and credible polls.
The Department of Education (DepEd) on Saturday, May 10, confirmed that teachers and other personnel who will serve in the upcoming elections will receive higher compensation for their poll duties.
“Our teachers face responsibility and risk every election,” said DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara in a statement. “They deserve this compensation for going above and beyond classroom duties,” he added.
In line with efforts to recognize their vital role in ensuring orderly and credible elections, DepEd said President Marcos and the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), led by Secretary Mina Pangandaman, swiftly acted to increase the election allowance for teachers and other poll workers.
Angara said the DepEd family “deeply appreciates” President Marcos’ commitment to the teachers.
“We can always count on our President to turn his vision of care into welfare and benefits for our hardworking teaching force,” Angara said. “We can also count on Secretary Pangandaman to recognize this hard work,” he added.
Poll hike
DepEd said the decision comes as it prepares for the safe and smooth conduct of elections in public schools—where teachers “serve a critical role in the democratic process.”
The agency noted that the DBM, under the directive of President Marcos, approved a P2,000 across-the-board increase in allowances.
The new honoraria rates for Electoral Board members are as follows: P12,000 from P10,000 for Chairpersons; P11,000 from P9,000 for Poll Clerks; P11,000 from P9,000 for Third Members; and P8,000 from P6,000 for Support Staff.
Angara joined Pangandaman’s call for the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) to “release” these benefits immediately.
“We thank the COMELEC in advance for the efficient distribution of these allowances,” Angara said. “Our teachers deserve our urgency,” he added.
DepEd said the President’s priorities in the 2025 budget include the set of benefits for poll workers.
A total of P7.480 billion has been allocated to support around 758,549 poll workers, including 281,587 personnel from DepEd. This funding covers honoraria, service credits, and various allowances, the agency said.
