TNT finally broke its record of futility against Terrafirma, blasting the struggling Dyip away, 110-74, to notch its first win streak of the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup at the PhilSports Arena on Friday, May 9.
The Tropang 5G, winless against the Dyip this season prior to the contest, rode on a strong first and third quarters to take a commanding lead that ballooned to as big as 46 points.
Calvin Oftana provided the tip to TNT's spear, firing 22 points while Poy Erram threw his weight around inside the relatively smaller Terrafirma with 19 points.
Rey Nambatac had 12 while RR Pogoy and Kim Aurin added 11 and 10, respectively, for the Tropang 5G who are seemingly finally regaining their confidence after a 0-3 start to the conference.
“Our objective coming into this ballgame was just to make sure that we beat Terrafirma with our effort and our energy,” said Chot Reyes whose TNT improved to a 2-3 record.
“We all know na matagal na naming hindi natatalo ‘tong team na ito. We don’t have a really good record against this team. We wanted to make sure that it doesn’t happen this time.”
Louie Sangalang and Mark Nonoy paced the Dyip with 16 each but not enough to prevent their team from falling to a 1-5 slate.
