Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial bet Vicente "Tito" Sotto III believes that those who will win in the May 12 mid-term elections--particularly in the Senate race--are candidates "ordained by God".
Sotto had this to say during a press conference Friday, May 9, even as pre-election survey results showed growing momentum for the 11-strong administration-backed slate.
It can even be argued that the Alyansa bets are peaking in terms of voter preference at just the right time, something that Sotto acknowledged.
"I believe that God has its ways. He knows what timing he wants. Those who will win on Monday and will have the votes of the people, definitely be ordained by God," said the former Senate President.
The Monday polls will determine 12 of the 24 senators who will comprise the upper chamber in the 20th Congress. Given the country’s political climate, the stakes in the elections are high.
"Walang mananalo doon na hindi ginusto ng Panginoon na manalo. Kaya tingin ko kung ganon ang trajectory ng Alyansa [sa surveys], salamat sa Panginoon (Nobody will win in the polls that God didn't want to win. So if the trajectory of Alyansa is that way, thanks be to God)," Sotto said.
