Pope Leo XIV's brother reveals pontiff watched 'Conclave' before the start of actual conclave in Rome - reports
"So he knew how to behave. So it's that kind of stuff, because I wanted to take his mind off of it, laugh about something, because this is now an awesome responsibility," the brother said.
"Conclave" is a drama movie nominated for eight Oscars — picture, actor, supporting actress, costume design, adapted screenplay, production design, film editing, and original score — at the 97th Academy Awards held in Los Angeles, California, on March 2. It won Best Adapted Screenplay.
The pope's older brother said he had a "slight feeling" his brother would become the first American pope.
The brother mentioned he had heard his brother had good odds in Vegas regarding who the next pope's favorite was.
The brother said he and his family are scheduled to travel to Rome on Friday to see the new pope, though they're not certain that will happen.
"I don't know how easy it will be to track him down. And will they let us track him down? I don't know," the brother said.
The pope's older brother spent a long career in education, first as a teacher at Visitation Catholic High School before spending 27 years as a principal at local Catholic high schools.
NBC reported that he was drafted into the United States Navy in college, where he studied computer technology. This led to a career he maintains today in Florida.
