Parallel layout now in place at NAIA T1 departure drop-off
The departure drop-off zone at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 has changed to a parallel layout from its previous diagonal configuration, the New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) announced on Friday, May 9.
In a Facebook post, the operator of the NAIA, said the change to diagonal configuration, established in the 1990s, was implemented to enhance the safety and efficiency of curbside drop-offs for both passengers and drivers.
NNIC added that the adjustment is part of continuous efforts to improve the overall experience at the airport.
The company also noted that traffic marshals are present to guide those heading to Terminal 1, urging them to follow signs and their directions.
Earlier, NNIC announced an audit of all security bollards throughout NAIA. These bollards, installed in 2019, are currently being reviewed to confirm proper installation as part of comprehensive safety assessments.
The NNIC review comes after an incident on May 4 where a sport utility vehicle (SUV) crashed into the Departure West Curbside Area of NAIA Terminal 1.
The Sunday incident resulted in the death of two individuals. Several others sustained injuries, with two remaining hospitalized in stable condition and two already discharged.
