Manila Water's net Income climbs at end-March as MWSS approves bill hike
Razon-led Manila Water Co. reported that its net income posted a 14 percent increase in the first quarter of 2025.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange this Friday, May 9, the private water utility firm’s net income reached ₱3.5 billion in the first three months of 2025, up from last year’s ₱3.1 billion.
The company’s Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization (EBITDA) also climbed from ₱6 billion in 2024 to ₱6.9 billion in the first quarter of this year.
Despite these financial improvements, the total attributable billed volume saw an 8 percent slowdown to 306.6 million cubic meters (mcm), representing the water amount billed to customers across its service areas.
Conversely, the company connected 1.37 million customers so far this year, a four percent increase compared to the previous year.
Specifically, its East zone concession recorded 126.7 mcm in the first three months of this year, slightly lower than last year’s 129.4 mcm by two percent. Within the Eastern part of Metro Manila, approximately 1.1 million billed connections were noted.
The company’s Asia Pacific unit also experienced a 16 percent decrease in billed volume, falling from 177.6 mcm to 148.5 mcm, largely due to a significant 72 percent drop in Saigon Water’s total billed volume.
In March, the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) announced that Manila Water would be increasing its consumers’ water bills for the second quarter (April to June) due to the implementation of the foreign currency differential adjustment (FCDA).
According to the MWSS, consumers using 10 cubic meters (cu.m) would see a ₱0.21 increase, while those consuming 20 cu.m or less would experience a ₱0.45 rise in their bills.
