'Always fact-check': Sharma denies 'Akari to Creamline' rumors
In a complex, diverse world of social media, anything can be real or untrue and outright malicious. That’s why Fifi Sharma has a gentle reminder to all social media users to always fact-check.
A timely memo from the 24-year-old Sharma who got embroiled in a nasty rumor about her leaving the Akari Chargers to move to the powerhouse Creamline.
“Wala ‘yon [and] don’t listen to what people say on Facebook, guys. That’s my number one advice,” said Sharma during Watsons Meet & Greet with her fellow PVL stars and Taft-based blooded Kim Kianna Dy and Jolina Dela Cruz at the SM Mega Fashion Hall in Mandaluyong Thursday, May 8.
“Whatever you see on Facebook, always fact-check,” she added.
The erstwhile De La Salle Lady Spiker reminded the fans to wait for an official announcement and to avoid sharing fake news.
“As long as there’s no official statement, don’t make fake news appear to be real, especially to impressionable minds such as volleyball fans,” Sharma continued. “Let’s just wait, wala ‘yon.”
‘Wag muna mag-ano ng final but wala ‘yun, never mind it,” she added.
Last March, Sharma suffered an ankle sprain during the first set of the Chargers’ quarterfinal showdown against the Galeries Tower Highrisers where they eventually prevailed in the series off two hard-fought five-set wins.
Akari, unfortunately, came up short in the single-round robin semifinal to settle for PVL All-Filipino Conference bronze honor.
The one-time UAAP champion shared that she is currently doing well and in a rehab to gradually heal her injury and get ready for the next season.
“Physically, I’m doing okay. I still have rehab to do because ‘yung ankle sprain ko talaga is a Grade 3 ankle sprain. It takes a really long time to recover,” said Sharma.
“So far, I’ve been doing rehab and I’m looking forward to the next conference. We’ll see. We’ll take it day by day,” she added.
Fifi, daughter of former PBA player Carlo, also stressed that she keeps herself ready, especially when the time is right to don Alas Pilipinas colors again.
“As of now, we’re still trying to reach a compromise. Ako, if you were to ask me, of course, I wanna play and I’d give everything to play but we’ll see,” she concluded. “We’re still waiting on people’s decisions.”
