Speaking to his supporters while standing on a pick-up truck that turned into a makeshift stage in front of the Ilocos Sur Provincial Capitol on Thursday, May 8, the former senator appealed for their support in the remaining days to Election Day.
Pangilinan believes there is going to be a big push in the lead up to May 12 because 20 percent of voters end up deciding who to vote for on Election Day itself.
“Walang bibitiw. Tuloy-tuloy ang pagkukumbinsi. Sa totoo lang, base rin sa research hanggang 20 percent po ng botante hanggang sa araw ng halalan hindi pa magdedecide. Doon na lang sa araw ng halalan sasabihin, ‘Teka nga muna, sino nga ba ang ating senador (No letting go. Let’s continue convincing. In truth, based on research, up to 20 percent of voters can’t decide until Election Day. Only on Election Day will they say, ‘Wait, who are we voting for as senators)?,” he said.
“Kaya kinakailangan puntahan pa sila, mag-marites na wag maniwala sa kasinungalingan. Doon lamang sa katotohanan (So, we need to go to them, pass the news around and don’t believe in the lies),“ he added.
Pangilinan’s ranking slid in the latest pre-election surveys, putting him outside the winning Magic 12 circle, although it’s still statistically possible for him to get on the last spot.
“Pito hanggang walo ang naglalabanan sa huling tatlo o apat na slot kaya sabi nga nila, it’s neck-and-neck at dahil neck-and-neck, pwe-pwede pa ba na tuloy-tuloy pa natin yung pagkukumbinsi dito sa Vigan, dito sa Ilocos Sur (There are about seven to eight fighting for the last three to four slots so as they said, it’s a neck-and-neck, so is it okay if we continue convincing [people] here in Vigan, here in Ilocos Sur)?,” he said.
With only two days left to the campaign period, Pangilinan will be barnstorming northern Luzon today—his first stop is Ilocos Sur, where he said he won in the last three times he run as senator, then the next would be La Union and Pampanga.
As part of his Luzon caravan, he will also be in Tarlac and Pampanga on May 9, and finally, in Bulacan and Quezon City on May 10, the last day of the campaign period.
