- Albay 2nd District Rep. Joey Salceda has made various recommendations to President Marcos so the country could withstand global headwinds amid President Donald Trump's shocking economic policies.
"The Philippine economy continues to withstand global headwinds," he said as the Philippine economy grew in the first quarter by 5.4 percent, although it still missed the government's target.
Although Salceda believed that expectations of Trump's tariff regime were already becoming stable, he said certain measures still need to be in place in order to help the Philippine economy pick up in the second quarter.
"I expect the numbers to pick up in the second quarter," added the economist-solon.
His noted that the election spending ban "had a bit of a drag on overall growth levels during the first quarter," and there would be "some lingering effects of that on the second quarter".
Among measures he suggested is making exportation easier and cheaper.
He also recommended making way for faster processing times for licenses, permits, and rules of origin documents for trade as well as easier availment of existing tax incentives.
Salceda chairs the House Committee on Ways and Means. He is eyeing a return as Albay governor in the May 12 polls.
