LPA, easterlies to bring scattered rain showers across parts of the Philippines
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Thursday, May 8 said rain showers may persist across the country over the next 24 hours due to a low pressure area (LPA) and the easterlies.
PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said the LPA, located 80 kilometers east-northeast of Cuyo, Palawan, may bring cloudy skies, scattered rains, and thunderstorms to Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Bicol Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, and the Visayas.
He noted that the chances of the LPA developing into a tropical depression remain low.
However, moderate to heavy rainfall could lead to flash floods or landslides.
Meanwhile, the warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, known as the easterlies, may also trigger scattered rain showers over Caraga and Davao Region.
The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy with an increased chance of isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening, as the country transitions into the rainy season.
PAGASA also advised the public to remain vigilant for potential flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
By Friday, May 9, Estareja said scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may continue to affect parts of Southern Luzon and Aurora.
He added that, from Sunday to Monday, May 11 to 12, the extreme Northern Luzon may experience rain and thunderstorms due to a frontal system.
The rest of the country is expected to have warm weather with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon or evening.
