ILOILO CITY – The Philippine National Police (PNP) has identified the gunman of veteran journalist Juan “Johnny” Dayang in Kalibo town, Aklan province last April.
The suspect was identified as BB Boy Kim Wency Antonio of Bacoor City, Cavite province.
Police Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky, Police Regional Office-6 chief, presented Antonio’s photograph in a press conference on Thursday, May 8.
The Special Investigation Task Group (SITG)-Dayang led by Police Col. Arnel Ramos of the Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO) identified the suspect in a series of closed circuit television footages retrieved after Dayang’s murder on April 29.
According to Wanky, Antonio fled Kalibo after the crime and was traced to have flown back to Manila via the Iloilo International Airport.
While the suspect has been identified, SITG Dayang spokesperson Police Capt. Aubrey Ayon said they still lack a motive for the killing.
A P500,000 reward has been offered for the arrest of the suspect – P250,000 from the provincial government of Aklan under Gov. Jose Enrique “Joen” Miraflores and the local government unit of Kalibo under Mayor Juris Bautista Sucro.
