A total of 1,296 wanted persons were arrested in Metro Manila in April this year alone as the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) further intensified the crackdown on fugitives.
NCRPO director Maj. Gen. Anthony A. Aberin said those arrested include nine of the 10 of the most wanted persons in Metro Manila for the month of April, adding that around 520 others who were collared were listed in various most wanted lists.
“These suspects—tagged for high-profile and often non-bailable offenses—were cornered through calculated manhunt operations and cohesive inter-unit coordination,” said Aberin, referring to Metro Manila’s nine most wanted persons.
Another significant accomplishment, according to Aberin, is the arrest of eight of the 10 newly-listed wanted persons in the National Capital Region for the month of May.
Citing NCRPO data, Aberin said all the five districts in Metro Manila made significant contributions to the accomplishment of accounting as many fugitives on a monthly basis.
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) led with 297 arrests, followed by the Southern Police District (SPD) with 282, the Manila Police District (MPD) with 273, the Northern Police District (NPD) with 247, and the Eastern Police District (EPD) with 197.
Most of the arrested individuals were fugitives for months or even years and facing charges ranging from rape, murder and robbery.
Aberin said those arrested include repeat offenders.
“This is a reflection of NCRPO’s intensified campaign against serious offenders to remove them from communities before further harm can occur. Most of the arrested individuals were fugitives for months or even years, but under NCRPO’s unrelenting pressure, hiding is no longer an option,” said Aberin.
“The crackdown will continue and there is nowhere to hide for these fugitives from the law,” he added.
