“They were on their way back home to Barangay Ingay from the town proper when the accident occurred,” said Police Lt. Mark Cortez, deputy chief of the Leon Municipal Police Station.
The passenger jeep had 10 people and stopped in Barangay Cagay to deliver sacks of rice and animal feeds.
Cortez told Manila Bulletin in a phone interview that the jeep was negotiating an uphill road and suddenly went downhill.
Driver Jose Caumban decided to maneuver it sideways to save them from plunging into a ditch.
Six of those injured were taken to the rural health center of Leon and treated as outpatients.
Two others were taken to Aleosan District Hospital in neighboring Alimodian town, Iloilo.
The third was taken to Western Visayas Medical Center in Iloilo City.
