3,922 soldiers to guard elections in Western Visayas, Negros Island

ILOILO CITY – The 3rd Infantry Division is deploying 3, 922 soldiers and utilizing 91 of its assets in Western Visayas and Negros Island regions to guard the May 12 elections.
“We are making comprehensive preparations to ensure our soldiers effectively perform their election duties,” said 3rd ID commander Major Gen. Michael Samson.
Aside from the two regions, the Joint Task Force (JTF) Spear also covers portion of Central Visayas, including Siquijor.
The JTF in Western Visayas is under the overall command of the 301st Infantry Brigade based in Dingle town, Iloilo province. A total of 1,126 troops and 48 mobility assets are being utilized by the 61st, 82nd, and 12th Infantry Battalions in the provinces of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, and Iloilo. The 3rd ID also sent an augmentation of 274 personnel and one mobility asset.
The JTF in Negros Island is under the command of the 303rd Infantry Brigade based in Murcia, Negros Occidental province and 302nd Infantry Brigade in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental province.
There are 2,522 troops and 42 mobility assets utilized by the 62nd, 79th, 15th, 47th, 94th, and 11th battalions in two provinces of the island-region.
Soldiers deployed are closely coordinating their protocols with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the Philippine National Police (PNP).
