BACOLOD CITY – Seven-hundred ninety-one families or 2,373 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from five Kanlaon Volcano-hit barangays in Canlaon City, Negros Oriental will vote on May 12.

Edna Lhou Masicampo, city’s public information officer, said that they have estimated three voters per family that will be transported from evacuation centers to polling centers situated outside the Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ).
Masicampo said that IDP voters will be allowed to cast their ballots during their window time between 5 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Election Day.
She said that this time frame is also designated for evacuees to visit their homes within the six-kilometer PDZ.
Vehicles provided by the local government unit and security for the transport of the evacuees are already in place, according to Masicampo.
After voting, she said that evacuees will return to their camps as the volcano remains under Alert Level 3.
They were given access cards for easy identification during the accounting of IDPs in evacuation centers, she added.
