PAGASA flags 19 areas for possible dangerous heat index on May 7
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned that 19 areas in the country may experience dangerous heat index levels on Wednesday, May 7.
Based on PAGASA’s latest forecast, the highest heat index of 44°C may be recorded in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan and Cavite City, Cavite.
Six other areas may feel a heat index of 43°C: Dagupan City, Pangasinan; Echague, Isabela; San Ildefonso, Bulacan; Camiling, Tarlac; and Alabat, Quezon.
Meanwhile, 11 other areas may register a 42°C heat index: Pasay City, Metro Manila; Quezon City, Metro Manila; Bacnotan, La Union; Aparri, Cagayan; Baler, Aurora; Iba, Zambales; Tarlac City, Tarlac; Los Baños, Laguna; Coron, Palawan; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; and Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur.
PAGASA considers a heat index between 42°C and 51°C to be at the “danger level.”
It warned that such conditions increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, such as heat cramps and heat exhaustion.
Prolonged exposure may also lead to heatstroke.
