Marikina mayoral bet Teodoro denies vote-buying allegations

Marikina City Representative and mayoral candidate Marjorie Ann “Maan” Teodoro has denied allegations of vote-buying filed against her before the Commission on Elections (Comelec), just days before the May 12 elections.

In a joint statement issued on Tuesday, May 6, Maan and her husband, incumbent mayor and First District congressional candidate Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro, said the allegation was untrue and clearly politically motivated.
“There is absolutely no truth to the allegation of vote-buying. The case filed against us is clearly politically motivated,” they said.
Maan also stated that the complaint came from a known supporter of their opponents.
“Ang reklamo ay galing mismo sa kilalang tagasuporta ng ating katunggali. Klarong-klaro ang motibo, isang desperadong hakbang para sirain tayo (The complaint came from a known supporter of our opponent. The motive is clear—it is a desperate move to discredit us),” she said.
“Hindi tayo patitinag. Laban lang (We will not be shaken. We will continue the fight),” she added.
The complaint was filed by lawyer Christian Real, representing one John David Ramos, and cited systematic cash distributions disguised as government assistance during the official campaign period, which are considered violations of Sections 261(a), 261(b), and 261(o) of the Omnibus Election Code.
The complaint includes eight sworn affidavits from residents who claimed to have received cash payouts, along with video and photographic evidence of the alleged vote-buying activities.
Key allegations in the complaint include cash distributions during the campaign period, use of Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) forms without DSWD presence, campaign activities integrated with assistance programs, and coercion and intimidation.
The Teodoros stated that the timing of the action, filed in the final stretch of the campaign, suggests it may be a “last resort” effort to distract voters and impact their candidacy just days before the elections.
“We urge Marikina residents to not believe unsubstantiated allegations. We remain focused on the issues that matter to the people of Marikina,” they stressed.
