MALOLOS, Bulacan--Former senator Panfilo "Ping" Lacson has recognized the corrective efforts that Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon is doing in the aftermath of recent deadly car accidents.

Lacson went as far to call Dizon as a "progressive-minded action man".

"Tragic ano? (It's tragic, right?) And kailangan siguro--well, umaaksyon naman si Secretary Dizon kasi napaka-active niya and progressive-minded. Action man eh (And we need to--well, Secretary Dizon is acting on it because he's very active and progressive-minded. That's an action man)," Lacson told reporters here after a press conference.

"Secretary Dizon is acting on his own to correct some flaws at tsaka mga possible mistakes na nagle-lead sa aksidente (and possible mistakes that can lead to accidents)," said the Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial candidate.

Lacson further painted Dizon as a well-meaning Cabinet official. "So maganda rin yung ginagawa niya, may mga reforms na gusto niya i-introduce sa department, particularly LTO, LTFRB."

(So he's doing good things, there are reforms he wants to introduce on the department, particularly the Land Transportation Office and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.)

The recent successive road mishaps have involved a bus as well as a sports utility vehicle (SUV). The separate accidents resulted to the deaths of at least 14 people.

"So accidents are accidents. Wala namang may gusto ng aksidente pero napaka-tragic because may batang namamatay, may pamilyang namamatay (Nobody wants accidents to happen, but it's very tragic because a child died, an entire family died)," the ex-senator said.
