CIDG: P42-M worth of fake, smuggled cigarettes seized n Luzon, Mindanao operations

Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) confiscated around P42 million worth of smuggled cigarettes and arrested 10 people in four separate operations in Luzon and Mindanao.
CIDG director Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III said the operations were part of the campaign against smuggling and counterfeit products and were based on confirmed intelligence reports on the ground.
On May 1, Torre said around P5.4 million worth of RGD and Yan alleged cigarettes were confiscated in Barangay Bangal in Dinalupihan town following the interception of a truck loaded with 160 cases of cigarettes.
The following day, CIDG operatives, along with representatives from Philip Morris International Inc., swooped down on a stock area in Manila and seized around P15.2 million worth of counterfeit cigarettes.
On the same day, a total of 478 master cases of smuggled and fake and smuggled cigarette products were seized in a rain in Digos City, Davao Del Sur.Torre said six people were arrested while two vans were confiscated during the operation.A
nd on May 4, around P2.1 million worth of smuggled Walton cigarettes loaded in a 10-wheeler truck was confiscated in Barangay Malandag, Malungon, Saranggani Province. Three people were collared during the operation.
