Mikee Cojuangco Jaworski named IOC Coordination Commission chair

Mikee Cojuangco Jaworski has been appointed as new chair of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Coordination Commission for the 2032 Olympics in Brisbane, Australia.

Outgoing IOC president Thomas Bach made the announcement after the request of President-elect Kirsty Coventry, who stepped down from her role.

A former equestrian athlete who won the gold medal in the 2002 Asian Games in Busan, South Korea, Jaworski has been a member of the IOC Executive Board since 2020. She has strong connections with Australia after having trained and competed in the country, including in Brisbane, for her entire career.

“Her role will be to ensure that all aspects of the project are developed and executed to the highest standards, creating an inclusive, sustainable and memorable Olympic experience for athletes, fans and communities alike,” the IOC said.

Jaworski, 51, will work in close partnership with the Organizing Committee, the Olympic Movement stakeholders, local authorities and International Sports Federations, bringing in a wide expertise after having been an IOC Member since 2013.

She has previously served on the coordination commissions for the 2020 Tokyo and 2024 Paris Olympics.

The Brisbane Olympics is scheduled from July 23 to Aug. 8, 2032.
