The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) released a total of P2.61 billion in emergency and livelihood assistance to more than 400,000 displaced and disadvantaged workers during the 123rd Labor Day celebration.
Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma said the support was provided through the DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP), which covers short-term work under Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) and livelihood grants through the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP).
Of the total beneficiaries, 395,147 individuals received temporary employment while 17,847 others were granted livelihood assistance to help them start or sustain small-scale enterprises.
The biggest share of the allocation went to CALABARZON with P445.87 million for nearly 74,000 beneficiaries, followed by Western Visayas with P301.95 million, Davao Region with P280.07 million, and Eastern Visayas with P262.81 million.
The aid distribution coincided with the rollout of the KADIWA ng Pangulo initiative in 67 locations, where 1,101 enterprises and 2,059 sellers offered affordable goods for workers and their families.
An awarding of KADIWA stores was also conducted in Central Luzon, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, and Central Visayas to boost access to essential commodities and agricultural products.
Carrying the theme “Manggagawang Pilipino, Kaagapay sa Pag-unlad, Sandigan ng mas Matatag na Bagong Pilipinas,” this year’s Labor Day observance also featured job fairs and public service caravans in partnership with the private sector.
