Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) at the Quezon City Jail Male Dormitory (QCJMD) of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) participated in “Senakulo”, Station of the Cross, and other traditional Lenten season activities in observance of Good Friday on April 18.
In a statement, the QCJMD noted that the Senakulo, a dramatic reenactment of Jesus Christ’s passion, provided the PDLs with a “meaningful opportunity for reflection and spiritual renewal.”
This was followed by the solemn observance of the Station of the Cross, where the PDLs and jail personnel meditated on Jesus’ journey to Calvary.
“Through these activities, QCJMD continues to foster a space for reflection and spiritual renewal among PDL during Holy Week,” the QCJMD explained.
On Maundy Thursday, Father Carl Opeña, SCJ, of the San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish, Tandang Sora and the Diocese of Novaliches and Restorative Justice Ministry (RJM), led a celebration of the Holy Mass at the QCJMD to commemorate the Lord’s Last Supper.
In keeping with the solemn tradition of Holy Thursday, Opeña also conducted the “Washing of the Feet” ceremony for the PDLs and QCJMD personnel, powerfully reminding everyone of Christ’s call to serve one another with humility and love.
