Five areas in the country may experience a “danger” level heat index—reaching at least 42 degrees Celsius (°C)—on Friday, April 11, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its forecast, PAGASA said Sangley Point in Cavite City, Cavite could record the highest heat index at 44°C.

Other areas expected to experience heat indices between 42°C and 43°C include Dagupan City in Pangasinan; Tayabas City in Quezon; Roxas City in Capiz; and Dumangas in Iloilo.

A heat index ranging from 42°C to 51°C falls under the danger classification, which poses a heightened risk of heat cramps and heat exhaustion.

Prolonged exposure may also lead to heatstroke.
