2 suspected rabies deaths recorded in Negros Occidental


BACOLOD CITY – Two persons have died due to suspected rabies in Negros Occidental so far this year.

Provincial Health Officer Girlie Pinongan said that the first victim was a four-year-old boy from Don Salvador Benedicto who was bitten by a dog and died last month.

The second victim was a 72-year-old man from Hinoba-an town who died on March 15. 

Pinongan said that the victim sustained a dog bite three years ago and was reportedly eating dog meat.

She said that they will investigate the report regarding the second victim.

The Provincial Health Office has yet to provide a list of recorded rabies cases since January this year.

Meanwhile, a fetus was found in a river in Purok 3, Barangay 9, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental on Wednesday, March 19.

Police Capt. Joelan Vinson, deputy chief of the Kabankalan police station, said that a group of children fishing on the river discovered the fetus around four to five-months-old. He said the barangay has buried the fetus.

Investigation is ongoing to determine the identity of the parents.
