Next week, NBI Director Jaime B. Santiago said to be promoted are eight head agents and 21 senior agents.

Of the newly regularized employees, Santiago noted  some of them have been in the service for 10 to 15 years, and those promoted have been in the servide for 25 to 30 years.

“Alam n’yo ako mismo ay contractual employee ako, emergency employee ako ng NBI (You know I was a contractual employee myself of the NBI) way back 1977 up to 1979,” Santiago told journalists.

“So ramdam ko ang hirap ng hindi ka regular employee (So I know the hardship one feels when not a regular employee),” he said.

Because of his experience as a contractual employee, Santiago said that, when he became NBI chief back in June last year, he immediately instructed the bureau’s Human Resource Management Division “bigyan ng pagkakataon itong mga workers natin na ito nag-e-excel sa kanilang trabaho pero walang promotion (give opportunities to these workers who excel in their work but do not get promoted).”
