Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan warned the public anew about fake social media accounts impersonating her.
In a post on her official Facebook page, the mayor reported that this is the ninth time she has received complaints about fraudulent accounts using her name.
She urged netizens to be careful and ensure they are following verified sources for accurate information.
The mayor clarified that she is not connected to a "Salvi Gatmaitan" account and emphasized that her official page is the only legitimate one under the name “Dra. Honey Lacuna.”
She provided tips on identifying fake accounts, including checking for a verified link, confirming the account type (official pages use Facebook Pages, not personal profiles), and looking at the number of followers.
The mayor also warned that her official page would never request money, mobile load, or any financial transactions.
She advised the public to cross-check information with trusted government websites to avoid being misled.
The latest fake account has been asking for phone numbers in exchange for free mobile load.
Similar incidents occurred in February 2024 and August 2023, prompting statements from her spokesperson, Atty. Princess Abante, urging the public to report fake accounts.
Abante stressed that the mayor’s official Facebook page is designed to provide the public with accurate and updated information.
The Manila Public Information Office (MPIO) Facebook account is also a reliable source of information.
