March 22 a special non-working day in Cavite


The Office of the President declared March 22, Saturday, a special non-working holiday in Cavite to commemorate the 156th birth anniversary of General Emilio Aguinaldo.

Proclamation No. 822 stated that the holiday seeks to give Caviteños full opportunity to participate in the commemorative activities to honor the first President of the Philippine Republic.

The proclamation was signed by Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin by the authority of President Marcos on March 7.

Aguinaldo was born on March 22, 1869, in Cavite el Viejo, now the Municipality of Kawit.

His ancestral home in Kawit became a historic site when he proclaimed Philippine independence there in 1898.
