The faith-based coalition, composed of priests, pastors, laypeople, and concerned citizens, burned dried palm leaves in a ritual signifying the seven “sins” which they believe were committed against the nation.
The movement also aims to gather public support for the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte, urging the Senate to initiate proceedings against her.
Fr. Bong Sarabia and Fr. Flavie Villanueva, both active in assisting families of drug war victims, emphasized that Sunog Sala marks the beginning of an intensified campaign for justice.
The group also aims to collect one million signatures each month to pressure lawmakers into taking action against Duterte.
Participants, including families who lost loved ones in the war on drugs during the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte, joined in the burning ceremony and shared testimonies of their struggles for justice.
The People’s Impeachment Movement vowed to sustain its advocacy through nationwide protests, educational forums, and continued legal action in pursuit of accountability.
