At least nine persons died, one of them a 70-year-old man, and four were injured in two deadly fires that hit residential areas in Makati City and Quezon City.
Quezon City Fire District (QCFD) Arson investigator SFO4 Rolando Valeña confirmed the deaths of eight persons and one injured individual in a fire that broke out at a three-story residential building in Barangay San Isidro, Quezon City on Thursday, Feb. 27.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the two bodies were found at the first floor of the building near the stairs while the other two were found on the second floor near the comfort room.
The BFP has yet to release the details on where the other fatalities were discovered.
The injured individual, identified as Jophel Samosa 36, suffered lacerations during the incident.
The blaze that hit 19 de Agosto Street was raised to the first alarm at 2:06 a.m. and was declared under control at 2:26 a.m.
The fire was extinguished at 2:48 a.m.
Arson probers placed the estimated damage to property at P3,600,000.
Reports indicated that the fire originated from the second floor of the building.

Meanwhile, a 70-year-old man died while three others were hurt in a fire that hit a residential area on Jasmin Street cor. Champaca Street in Barangay Guadalupe Viejo, Makati City on Wednesday, Feb. 26, the BFP reported.
Based on the incident report, the blaze started at the house owned by a certain Nida Magat Tesalonia.
Firefighters said the fire started at 12:40 p.m. and has reached the 2nd alarm at 12:43 p.m. The inferno was declared fire out at 1:53 p.m.
Two individuals sustained burn injuries on their forearms while a 90-year-old man suffered from difficulty in breathing.
Arson investigators said the amount of damage to property was at P840,000. They are still determining the cause of the fire.
Meanwhile, a total of 30 families or equivalent to 101 individuals were adversely affected by the fire.
