Malabon LGU slams misleading claims of increased crime rates in the city

The Malabon City government, in coordination with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Malabon City Police Station (MCPS), denied misleading social media claims about crime rates, citing a significant drop in criminal activities on Saturday, Feb. 1.

The MCPS emphasized its proactive approach to law enforcement and community engagement, which has resulted in a notable decline in crime.

Police data showed that theft cases dropped from 175 incidents in 2023 to 114 in 2024, while robbery cases slightly declined from 37 incidents to 34.

Authorities attributed the improved peace and order situation to enhanced patrol operations, strengthened community partnerships, and neighborhood watch programs.

Law enforcement also intensified operations against illegal drugs, firearms, and gambling, yielding significant results.

Anti-drug campaigns led to the confiscation of P16.9 million worth of illicit substances and the arrest of 260 individuals.

A crackdown on illegal firearms resulted in the seizure of 52 firearms and the apprehension of 45 suspects.

Meanwhile, anti-gambling campaigns saw 805 individuals arrested and P251,442 in illegal bet money confiscated.

The Malabon City government continues to build strong partnerships with national agencies, local departments, non-government organizations (NGOs), and community-based groups.

Through education campaigns, information-sharing, and "Ugnayan" programs, authorities aim to foster trust and cooperation between law enforcement and the public.

City officials urged residents to remain vigilant against disinformation and continue supporting law enforcement efforts.

They emphasized that Malabon’s transformation into a safer and more welcoming city is the result of strong collaboration between the local government, police, and the community.

“We call on the public to confront fake news with truth, support the programs of the PNP and other law enforcement agencies, and trust in the local government's efforts toward peace and development,” an official said.
