Ex-NCAA cager shot dead in Cotabato


A former National Collegiate Athletic Association basketball player was shot dead in M’lang, Cotabato on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

Police identified the victim as Ken Fred “Kentoy” Segura.

Segura played for the Arellano University Chiefs in the NCAA and the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.

Investigation said Segura and a nephew were on their way to play in Barangay Pulanglupa, M’lang when a man appeared and shot the victim.

Segura sustained two bullet wounds and was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead. His nephew was unhurt.

The suspect fled using the victim’s vehicle, a Toyota Wigo. 

Police flagged down a similar vehicle during a follow-up operation.  

The driver escaped but his passenger, a woman, was arrested. They are now considered persons of interest. 

Segura was affectionately called “Mr. Piso Piso” due to his basketball prowess.

The victim, a native of Digos City, is survived by his wife and two children. One of them was only a month old.

Follow-up investigation is ongoing.
