CAMP FLORENDO, La Union – The Police Regional Office-1 (Ilocos) remembered the heroism and sacrifice of the SAF 44 during the Day of National Remembrance on Saturday, Jan. 25, in this camp.
Police Brig. Gen. Lou F. Evangelista, Ilocos police chief, condoled with the families of the fallen heroes.
"Let us use this gathering to reflect on the values they epitomized – courage, loyalty, and unwavering commitment to duty. We must strive to embody the high ideals they represent. Their sacrifice serves as a call to action for us to build a more peaceful and secure future for all," he said.
The event with the theme “Courage Beyond Measure: Remembering the Sacrifice of the SAF 44 for Peace for this Year" started with the raising of the Philippine flag at half-mast followed by a Mass at the PRO1 Auditorium.
Also remembering the SAF 44 was the PRO-Cordillera.
The commemoration ceremony at The Manor, Camp John Hay, Baguio City, kicked off with a Mass where Edna G. Tabdi, mother of the late Senior Insp. Gednat Tabdi, paid tribute to her son and his fallen comrades.
"I am immensely proud of my son and his brave comrades. Their ultimate sacrifice for our country will forever be etched in our hearts. Their memory serves as a constant reminder of the unwavering commitment and courage required to serve our nation with honor and love," Edna said.
The event concluded with the family of the SAF 44 from the Cordillera region laying flowers at the SAF Memorial in Baguio.
