The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) confirmed on Friday, Jan. 24, that a Pasig City court ordered the transfer of embattled Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) leader Apollo Quiboloy to a government hospital from a private medical institution.

Quiboloy was rushed to a government hospital last Jan. 18 following a recommendation from a BJMP physician after the church leader complained of difficulty in breathing while detained at the Pasig City Jail Male Dormitory.

The attending physician at the public hospital where Quiboloy was rushed also advised his transfer to another hospital due to insufficient facilities after being initially diagnosed with community-acquired pneumonia.

In an interview, BJMP spokesperson Supt. Jayrex Bustinera stated that the bureau received a court order partially granting Quiboloy’s hospitalization.

“PDL (person deprived of liberty) Quiboloy was also ordered to be transferred to a public hospital per court order by RTC (Regional Trial Court) 159 Judge dated 23 January 2025,’’ Bustinera said.

“Per info from the warden, they will be processing the transfer to the public hospital ASAP (as soon as possible). For transfer na ngayon sa public hospital (He is due for transfer at a government hospital now)," he added.

However, Bustinera remained mum when asked if Quiboloy was indeed confined at the Medical City and will be transferred to the Pasig General Hospital.

Appealing for understanding, Bustinera stood firm that Quiboloy’s hospital confinement details could not be released publicly.

“Hindi natin pwedeng sabihin for security reasons (We cannot divulge due to security reasons),’’ Bustinera confided.

With his transfer to a government hospital, Bustinera assured the public that Quiboloy remains under BJMP custody and that strict security is in place during his hospital confinement.

Bustinera also shrugged off speculations that Quiboloy is being given preferential treatment as he is a high-profile inmate.

“Mr. Quiboloy will be treated like any other PDL in accordance with the law and jail regulations," he said.
