“From being told that Pasay City General Hospital (PCGH) is substandard, we are now the standard.”

Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano stated that as the city’s lone public hospital, the PCGH conducted the first-ever “PAKILALA: The 1st Hospital-Wide Graduation Rites for Residents.”

The mayor said 16 resident doctors from the PCGH graduated at the hospital-wide graduation rites last Jan. 15, held at the Hilton Manila-Newport Blvd.

Rubiano said the city’s lone public hospital is now “leveling up” as a full-fledged training hospital with the establishment of the Department of Medical Education.

She said the resident doctors completed their residency training in three nationally accredited programs: Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Pediatrics.

The mayor said the first-ever graduation rites for resident doctors were made possible under the leadership of Dr. John Victor de Gracia, Medical Director; Dr. Melgar Matulac, Director of Medical Education; and Dr. Mark Pongco, President of the Resident Staff Organization.

"Kami po ay labing-anim na mga doktor–doktor ng mga bata, matanda, at buntis at kami po ay nagpapakilala at laging magpapakilala bilang mga doktor na nagsanay, nahasa, at natuto, bilang mga produkto ng Pasay City General Hospital (We are 16 doctors—doctors for kids, seniors, and pregnant women, and we introduce ourselves and will always introduce ourselves as doctors who were trained, honed, and educated, as products of Pasay City General Hospital),” Pongco said.
