Director Darryl Yap announced the release date of his controversial film “The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma.”
On Jan. 21, Yap released the official trailer of “The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma” online and announced that it will be shown in Philippine cinemas nationwide on Feb. 5.
According to the trailer, the film commemorates the 40th death anniversary of Paloma (real name Delia Dueñas Smith), an actress in the 1980s who passed away in 1985 at age 18. Paloma was part of the Softdrink Beauties.

“The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma” stars Rhed Bustamante as Paloma, Gina Alajar as Solis, Mon Confiado as Paloma’s manager Rey Dela Cruz, Rosanna Roces as Divina Valencia, Andres Balano Jr. as Richie D'Horsie, Shamaine Buencamino as Lydia Duena Whitley, Paloma’s mother, Jun Nayra as Paloma’s lawyer Renato Cayetano, and Beverly Salviejo as talent scout Monica, a talent scout.
The trailer did not mention the name of TV host and actor Vic Sotto, who filed a P35 million cyber libel complaint against Yap with the Muntinlupa Prosecutor’s Office last Jan. 9.
Sotto’s complaint stemmed from a teaser video of the film, released on Jan. 1, which mentioned his name.
On Jan. 7, Sotto filed a petition for writ of habeas data against Yap with the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court Branch 205, seeking to remove the teaser and other promotional materials that mentioned his name.
Sotto and Yap faced each other at the Muntinlupa court during the summary hearing for the writ on Jan. 17. The court will issue its decision in 10 days.
