President Marcos has told United States President Donald Trump that he is looking forward to working closely with his administration as he congratulated him following his assumption to office.
In a statement on Tuesday, Jan. 21, Marcos also expressed hopes that the Philippines and the US would continue to uphold their shared vision for the region during Trump's term.
"Congratulations to POTUS @realdonaldtrump (President of the United States Donald Trump) and to the American people on another peaceful transfer of power in their Nation’s nearly 250-year history," he said.
"I look forward to working closely with you and your Administration," he told the 45th US President.
Marcos also expressed hopes that the ironclad alliance of the two countries will carry on as they uphold their shared vision of prosperity and security in the region.
"The strong and lasting PH-US alliance will continue to uphold our shared vision of prosperity and security in the region," he said.
Trump assumed office on Monday, Jan. 20 (Washington time). He is returning to the presidency after defeating US Vice President Kamala Harris during the November 2024 presidential polls. Trump served as president from 2016 to 2020 before losing to outgoing US president Joseph Biden in November 2020.
In November last year, Marcos and Trump had a "very friendly" and "productive" call, following Trump's victory in the presidential polls.
