All PNP-IAS personnel yield negative results in random drug test

All personnel of the Internal Affairs Service of the Philippine National Police (PNP-IAS) were cleared in the random drug testing conducted last week, an official disclosed on Saturday, Jan. 11. 

Lawyer Brigido Dulay, PNP-IAS inspector general, said he is satisfied and elated by the drug test result, as he explained that the move is part of the internal cleansing program and an effort to uphold integrity and accountability within the organization.

“The random drug testing, administered by the PNP-Forensics Group, yielded 100 percent negative results, which showed that no IAS personnel were found using illegal drugs,” said Dulay.

Dulay said the surprise drug testing is part of IAS’ efforts to ensure that those who are tasked to investigate police misconduct and enforce rules within the PNP are themselves adhering to the highest standards of professionalism and ethical policing.

The PNP-IAS is the institutional watchdog of the PNP mandated to investigate police misconduct and recommend disciplinary actions. Established under Republic Act 8551, IAS plays a critical role in ensuring accountability and professionalism within the PNP. 

He emphasized the importance of leading by example, especially in an institution tasked with promoting accountability. 

“Our personnel are held to the same high standards that we expect from the police force. This drug testing initiative is a proactive step in ensuring that our team remains beyond reproach,” said Dulay. 

“We cannot demand integrity from others if we do not uphold it ourselves. Ensuring that IAS personnel are free from illegal drug use reinforces our credibility and authority in enforcing discipline within the PNP,” he added.
