Carl Tamayo unleashed his inner beast as he dropped a career-high 37 points but in a losing effort as the Changwon LG Sakers bowed to the Seoul Samsung Thunders, 88-92, in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) Thursday, Jan. 9.
Tamayo erupted with his best scoring night off a perfect 15-of-15 two-point shooting along with two triples on top of seven rebounds and three assists in 32 minutes of play.
That scoring record from Tamayo eclipsed SJ Belangel’s 36-point explosion for Daegu against the very same team last weekend.
However, the former UP star’s feat wasn’t able to save the Sakers from the painful defeat as the Thunders rallied in the fourth quarter where they created a 90-83 separation under a minute left to steal the game.
Darryl Monroe and Yang Jun-Seok backstopped Tamayo’s gallant effort with 12 points each as the Sakers dropped to a 14-13 card at 5th spot.
Kofi Cockburn starred for Seoul after listing 24 points and nine rebounds while Fil-American Justin Gutang backed him up with 15 points, six rebounds and three assists.
Four other players scored double digits for the Thunders, who improved to 9-17 at 8th place.
Last weekend, Tamayo made a successful comeback after his three-day absence due to injury late 2024, anchoring Changwon over the Goyang Sono Skygunners, 67-64, to snap their two-game slide.
Up next for Tamayo and Changwon are the Anyang KGC Red Boosters (7-20) this Saturday, Jan. 11.
