The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is now preparing for the repatriation of 220 Filipino detainees who were granted pardon by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) government.
In a statement, the DMW said it is now preparing to work with the Philippine Embassy in facilitating the repatriation of the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who were pardoned in celebration of the UAE’s 53rdNational Day.
“We are also committed to providing comprehensive support to ensure their smooth and successful reintegration into Philippine society, through a whole-of-government collaboration with other government agencies,” the statement read.
President Marcos earlier announced that 220 OFWs were granted with. The UAE government’s decision brought to 363 the total number of pardoned OFWS last year, the first batch was during the Eid al-Adha.
The DMW said the decision highlighted “the strong and enduring relationship” between the Philippines and the UAE.
It said that such a bond was further reinforced in the recent meeting between Marcos, Jr. and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan in November 2024.
