Thirty houses were destroyed and 30 families composed of 120 individuals were displaced in the fire that started at 3:20 a.m. The fire was put out around 4:30 a.m. Damage to property was pegged at P900,000.
Investigation said the boy’s family thought that he was able to run for safety when the flames started engulfing their house.
His family discovered that he was not with them and he was beyond recognition when his body was found among the debris.
A man was arrested after he struck the windshield of a responding firetruck.
Luilyn Vergara, a member of the Barangay Mambaling Disaster and Fire Brigade, said 10 persons blocked the firetruck.
Vergara said they seemed to be drunk when they insisted that firemen prioritize their burning houses.
She said unburned houses should be the first to be doused with water.
Vergara said residents got irked and one of them, a certain Rafael, hit the firetruck’s windshield with a hard object. The windshield sustained damage because of the strike, Vergara said.
Rafael was arrested and will be charged for malicious mischief and damage to property.
