The Makabayan bloc is out to consolidate support for--as well as hasten the impeachment process--against Vice President Sara Duterte through a proposed consultation this coming Wednesday, Jan. 8.

This can be gleaned from the letter that the militant solons sent to their select House of Representatives colleagues on Monday, Jan. 6.

"This is to invite you to a meeting-consultation with endorsers and cmplainants of the three

impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Z. Duterte on 8 January 2025. Wednesday at the Minority Conference Room of the House of Representatives, at 10:00 in the momning," read a copy of the one page letter acquired by Manila Bulletin.

It was signed by ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro, Gabriela Party-list Rep. Arlene Brosas, and Kabataan Party-list Rep. Raoul Manuel.

"As fellow advocates for good goverance and public accountability--in paricular, Vice-

President Duterte's accountability to the pcople--we hope that we can discuss in this meeting our impeachment complaints and agree on efforts to push the Marcos administration and the House of Representatives leadership to move the impeachment process along," the letter stated.

Castro, Brosas, and Manuel served as solon-endorsers of the second impeachment complaint filed against Vice President Duterte last Dec. 4.

The invite was sent to the Akbayan Party-list Rep. Perci Cendaña, endorser of the first impeachment complaint filed last Dec. 2; and Camarines Sur 3rd district Rep. Gabriel Bordado Jr. and AAMBIS-OWA Party-list Rep. Lex Anthony Cris Colada, endorsers of the third impeachment rap filed last Dec. 19.

"On behalf of the complainants and endorsers of the second impeachment complaint, we hope for your favorable response, and look forward to meeting you on Wednesday," the Makabayan solons said in their letter.

None of the endorsers have come from the majority bloc. However, there have been rumors that some lawmakers there are planning to endorse a fourth impeachment complaint.

Castro said the invite also covers the civilian-complanaints themselves.

All three existing impeachment raps against Vice President Duterte are with House Secretary General Reginald Velasco.

The impeachment will be set in motion once Velasco submits the complaints to the Office of the Speaker, but it is not clear when he plans to do this.

House rules says that the secretary general has 10 session days to transmit the impeachment complaints to the Speaker. Velasco recently said that only three session days have lapsed since the filing of the first complaint.
