DPWH secures P1.85-B deal for UP campus upgrades

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has signed an agreement with the University of the Philippines (UP) for a P1.85 billion worth of comprehensive infrastructure upgrade in its eight campuses nationwide.

DPWH Undersecretary for Operations in Charge of Convergence Projects Eric Ayapana and UP President Angelo A. Jimenez led the signing of an agreement on Friday, Sept. 6 in Quezon City.

A key component of the initiative is the construction of a P1 billion pediatrics and adult specialty center at the UP Philippine General Hospital in Ermita, Manila.

The new facility will feature specialized clinics, a training center, and dormitories for healthcare staff.

Further investments include P100 million allocated for the restoration of Rizal Hall and P13.5 million for expanding the College of Medicine at UP Manila.

These renovations are intended to modernize educational spaces and enrich the learning environment for future healthcare professionals.

In Cavite, P300 million will be directed towards advancing technological innovation at the UP System Technology Innovation Campus.

Additionally, P10 million will be used for rehabilitating the UP Visayas School Building, P100 million will fund a new College of Law Building at UP Visayas, and P30 million will support the expansion of the UP Extension Campus in Pandan, Antique.

The UP Manila School of Health Sciences in Palo, Leyte, will receive P25 million for improvements, while P40 million will be allocated for a new dormitory at UP Cebu.

UP Mindanao in Davao City will benefit from P140 million designated for new dormitories, faculty housing, and research facilities.

“This partnership marks a milestone in the government's commitment to enhancing access to healthcare services and elevating the educational infrastructure at our leading institution of higher learning,” Ayapana remarked.
