Septuagenarian vendor dies in road mishap


BACOLOD CITY – A 72-year-old vegetable vendor died after he was hit by a motorcycle in Bangga Mabini, Barangay Mabini, Valladolid, Negros Occidental before dawn on Sunday, September 8.

Police identified the victim as Loreto Sandico of Barangay Mabini.

Police Major Eric Doronilla, Valladolid police chief, said the victim was crossing the road to reach his delivery vehicle parked on the opposite side.

However, he was hit by a speeding motorcycle driven by a 23-year-old man on his way home to Pulupandan, Negros Occidental.

The victim and the motorcycle rider sustained injuries. 

Sandico was declared dead in a hospital while the motorcycle rider was referred to a hospital here.

Doronilla said the rider was not wearing a helmet.
