‘Queen of Tears,’ ‘Moving’ win Outstanding K-Drama at Seoul Int’l Drama Awards 2024


The hit series “Queen of Tears” and “Moving” won the Outstanding Korean Drama award at the Seoul International Drama Awards 2024. 

The Seoul Drama Awards Organizing Committee, led by Chairman Bang Moon-shin, announced on Sept. 9 the winners for the international invitation, international competition, K-drama competition, special prize, and outstanding Asia stars. 

There were 346 entries from 48 countries and regions submitted this year, the highest in SDA history.

Studio Dragon’s “Queen of Tears” starred Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won, while “Moving” from Disney+ was headlined by Han Hyo-joo, Zo In-sung, Ryu Seung-ryong, Lee Jung-ha, Cha Tae-hyun, Ryoo Seung-bum, Kim Sung-kyun, Go Youn-jung, and Kim Do-hoon.

Yeom Hye-ran and Ahn Jae-hong (“Reply 1988”) won best actress and best actor, respectively, for their roles in the Korean series “Mask Girl” on Netflix. 

Korean Director Park Chan-wook won the Golden Bird Prize while the Grand Prize in the International Competition went to Brazi’s “Justice: Misconduct.”

The Golden Bird Prize is “an honor given to works and individuals that have made a significant mark in the drama industry.”  

“Justice: Misconduct,” meanwhile, “delves into the flaws of the judicial system through the stories of three suspects who committed crimes for different reasons and one inmate wrongfully imprisoned.” 

According ot the SDA, the judges praised the series as a “highly impactful work, offering an original and unique direction that deconstructs the chronological order of events.”

In the international competition, Netflix’s “3 Body Problem” won Best Miniseries and Best Screenwriter. 

The Best TV Movie award went to Czech Television’s “The Saint” while Jiřina Bohdalová, 93, bagged the Best Actress award. 

Meanwhile, South Korea’s ”Bruised Like a Peach” won Best TV Movie and “Korea-Khitan War” garnered the Best Series award. Director Park In-je won Best Director for “Moving.” 

Korean actor Song Kang-ho bagged the Best Actor award for “Uncle Samsik” (Disney+). 

The winners of the Outstanding Asian Star, based on fan votes,  are Byeon Woo-seok and Kim Hye-yoon from “Lovely Runner, Siti Saleha from Malaysia, Desmond Tan from Singapore, Ochi Rosdiana from Indonesia, Metawin Opas-iamkajorn from Thailand, and Kim Chiu from the Philippines. 

BSS won Outstanding Korean Drama OST Award for “Queen of Tears.” 

The Japanese drama “Eye Love You” won Special Prize.

The Seoul International Drama Awards 2024, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Seoul Metropolitan Government, KBS, MBC, SBS, EBS and CBS, will be held on Sept. 25 at the KBS Hall in Seoul. 

It will be broadcast live on SBS TV and through the SDA official Youtube channel. 

Also, a ”Purple Carpet” event will be held before the ceremony, featuring the winners, award presenters, and other celebrities.
