Pastor Apollo Quiboloy (MANILA BULLETIN)
Gabriela Party-list Rep. Arlene Brosas says the arrest of controversial Pastor Apollo Quiboloy should be a reminder that he isn't a supreme being, which some people think he is.
"Let this be a reminder to Quiboloy that he is not a God. Harapin niya ngayon ang taumbayan (He must now face the people)," Brosas said in a statement Sunday night, Sept. 8, shortly after Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos announced the arrest on his social media.
"Quiboloy must now face the charges against him, which include child abuse, sexual abuse, and qualified trafficking. These are heinous crimes that have caused immeasurable harm to his victims, and he must be brought to justice without delay," she said.
Brosas, a House assistant minority leader, says Quiboloy's fall into the hands of authorities "is long overdue and marks a significant step towards justice for his victims".
Quiboloy, founder and leader of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) church, is the self-proclaimed "Appointed Son of God". Needless to say, he has many followers who are willing to sacrifice for him.
Before Abalos' announcement, Philippine National Police (PNP) operatives had been searching for Quiboloy for two weeks at the KOJC compound in Davao City.
Go after pastor's 'protectors'
Meanwhile, Brosas and her fellow Makabayan solon, ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro, believe that authorities should also look into the personalities who have protected Quiboloy.
"We call for an investigation into his number one protector and all those who have enabled his evasion from justice. The rule of law must prevail, and no one should be above it," Castro said, without mentioning any names.
"The arrest of Apollo Quiboloy must lead to his full accountability before the law. The charges against him, both in the United States (US) and the Philippines, are grave and demand thorough investigation and prosecution," noted Castro, a deputy minority leader.
"Justice must be served for the victims of these heinous acts," she underscored.
Brosas said: "The government must not only focus on Quiboloy but also investigate those who aided him during his time in hiding."
"This includes a thorough investigation into any possible involvement of individuals in positions of power who may have shielded him from accountability," she added.
Quiboloy is the spiritual adviser of former president and former long-time Davao mayor, should Rodrigo Duterte.
