Negros Occidental, Bacolod officials mourn death of former Gov. Daniel Lacson Jr.
BACOLOD CITY – Officials of this city and Negros Occidental mourned the death of former Gov. Daniel “Bitay” Lacson Jr.

Lacson peacefully passed away in his home surrounded by his family on Friday night, September 6, at the age of 77.
Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson remembered him as a devoted public servant.
“We are deeply grateful to Gov. Bitay Lacson for the life he devoted to public service. The province has lost a brilliant and well-loved leader,” he said.
He said that he will always remember the vision of Gov. Daniel for the Mini-Taiwan development framework for Negros Occidental.
He recalled the former governor’s “Star of Hope” initiative that brought new meaning to the traditional parol or Christmas star.
His committed and impassioned dedication to service will remain as an inspiration to everyone, he said.
Former Gov. Rafael “Lito” Coscolluela also mourned the death of Gov. Daniel Lacson.
“Sad day for Negros Occidental. Another governor is gone, accompanied by angels to his well-earned heavenly rest,” Coscolluela said in a Facebook post.
Coscolluela said that Gov. Daniel served the province and country with passion, always concerned about what could be done to make things better.
He shared a photo of himself with two late governors – Daniel and Alfredo Marañon Jr., who passed away in October 2020.
Mayor Albee Benitez here said that the province lost a true public servant, whose life is worth emulating by younger generations.
Benitez remembered Gov. Daniel as a dedicated public servant who also served as former chairman of the Philippine National Bank (PNB) and the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) left behind a legacy of leadership and service.
