Ride-hailing app driver arrested for robbery, rape in Laguna

A driver of a hailing ride service application was arrested by members of the Parañaque City police after a complaint of robbery with rape was filed against him and accomplice during the conduct of a follow-up operation in Cabuyao, Laguna.

The Southern Police District (SPD) said the arrested suspect was identified as alias “Andy,” 36, while his accomplice, alias “Pogi” is still being hunted by the police.

Parañaque City police chief, Col. Melvin Montante, said the suspect was arrested on Saturday, September 7, in a wake near his residence in Cabuyao, Laguna.

Montanate said the 32 year-old victim booked at the hailing ride service on September 5 which was accepted by the suspect onboard a metallic green Toyota Vios.

He said the victim claimed that while they were cruising on her way home, the suspect suddenly stopped and alias “Pogi” boarded the car.

The victim noted Pogi threatened her with a knife and took her P35,000 cash and cellphone.

He also told the police that the two suspects raped her inside the car.

The victim added that after raping her, she was blindfolded by the suspects and left her in front of a cargo company in Barangay San Dionisio.

The police during the conduct of backtracking investigation, immediately coordinated with Laguna police station for the arrest of Andy.

Authorities were able to locate the suspect after his address was seen through his Land Transportation Office (LTO) driver’s license.

Police said the vehicle was registered to his house in Cabuyao, Laguna.

The police recovered inside Andy’s car were the iPhone 12 of the victim, cellphone, brass knuckle, men’s wallet and a .45 caliber pistol.

The suspect was detained at the Parañaque police custodial facility after his arrest and was charged of robbery with rape at the Parañaque City Prosecutor’s Office while the illegal possession of firearm and ammunition was filed at the Cabuyao Prosecutor's Office.
