Baguio logs 15 dengue deaths from January 1 to September 5


BAGUIO CITY – The Baguio City Health Services Office reported that 15 persons have died from the mosquito-borne disease dengue here and 6,718 cases were recorded from January 1 to September 15 this year.

Among the fatalities were four children aged 1, 4, 6, and 9.

The CHSO said the downtrend of dengue cases was maintained from August 22 to September 5. However, the total number of cases remained at the highest level compared to last year in the same period, the CHSO added.

"The impact of dengue is seen in a wide age range but the higher number of deaths is seen in adults (31 to 50 years)," the CHSO said.

Most of the fatalities were males and deaths occurred from June to August, the CHSO added.

Two deaths each were recorded in Barangays Irisan and Camp 7.

The Top 10 barangays with most cases were Irisan, Bakakeng Central, Asin Road, Pacdal, Santo Tomas Proper, Camp 7, Gibraltar, Loakan Proper, Bakakeng Norte, and Pinget.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong here urged the people to be vigilant against dengue amid the gradual decrease in the number of cases.

Magalong also urged the people to participate in search and destroy operations against mosquito breeding areas and consult a doctor immediately if dengue symptoms appear.

Dengue symptoms, according to the Center for Disease Control of the United States, is fever with any of the following: Aches and pains (eye pain, typically behind the eyes, muscle, joint, or bone pain), nausea, vomiting, and rashes.
